Spectral properties of isomers aromatic compounds (anthracene and phenanthrene)

Abstract

The absorption and fluorescence spectra of the (anthracene and phenanthrene ) compounds dissolved in polar and non-polar solvents (cyclohexane and methanol) were measured and study in two concentrations [10-4M]and [10-5M]. For anthracene at excited wavelength) λex= 375 nm) and phenanthrene at excited wavelength) λex= 292 nm). The results showed a small shift for absorption and fluorescence spectra for the two compounds (anthracene and phenanthrene) toward the longer wavelength (red shift ) in non- polar solvent (cyclohexane). Also, noticed decreasing of fluorescence intensity of anthracene with increasing of solvent polarity . These measurements were done at room temperature.
