A Geographical Analysis of Characteristics of The Economic Structure of The Population in Iraq in 2020

Abstract

Abstract:This study aims to analyze the characteristics of the economic structure of the population of Iraq in 2020 using some indicators and standards recognized in population studies, as well as to determine the extent of variation in the distribution of the labor force according to economic activities, and to know the extent of unemployment and its spatial variation at the level of spatial units and governorates.It was found through the study that the rate of raw economic activity at the national level amounted to (24.1%), which is a low rate compared to the global average of (50%), industrialized countries (56%), and developing countries (44%), and it was also clear that there is a sharp qualitative discrepancy. In the economic contribution rate, the male contribution rate was (40.3%) compared to (7.6%) for females.On the other hand, the study showed the dominance of the third group of activities related to trade over the rest of the sectors, acquiring a relative balance of (64.45%) of the total labor force in economic activity, followed by the first group of activities represented in agriculture and fishing in the second place with a relative balance of (20.4%), while The third group of activities related to mining, quarries, industry, electricity, gas, water, and construction, only received a small percentage of (14.9%) of the total labor force.
