The Representations of the Ruler in the Umayyad Poetry: The Religious Representations as Choice
Abstract
The research investigates some of the religious arguments relied upon by the rulers of the Umayyads to prove their right to the caliphate and to legitimize their rule. They - in the expression of their poets about these arguments – are chosen by God to succeed Him on earth, and that they enjoy sacred attributes with which people seek blessing, in addition to being guided imams; Therefore, every revolt against them is a rebellion against the will of the group emanating from the will of God who appointed them to be imams and caliphs over all Muslims.
